Terms of service

Sell Something helps people near each other find each other and agree a deal. We are not a bank, payment processor or escrow service. Buyers and sellers pay each other directly, and we don't take a cut or guarantee any deal.

1. Who we are

Sell Something runs an online marketplace that connects buyers and sellers of goods and services in South Africa. By creating an account or using the site or apps, you agree to these terms.

2. We never handle your money

Sell Something does not process, hold or transmit any payment between users. Buyers and sellers pay each other directly, in person or by EFT, on terms they agree. We are not a party to any deal and are not a financial services provider. The only payments made to us are for optional promotions (clause 6).

3. Your account

  • You must be 18 or older.
  • You're responsible for your listings being accurate and for keeping your password safe.
  • One person, one account. Don't pretend to be someone else.

4. What you can't list

  • Anything illegal, stolen or counterfeit, or that you don't have the right to sell.
  • Firearms and ammunition, drugs, prescription medicines, and other restricted goods.
  • Misleading, fraudulent or hateful content, or content that infringes someone else's rights.

We may remove listings or suspend accounts, especially after reviewing a report.

5. Dealing safely

Deals are between buyer and seller. We provide reporting, verification and safety guidance, but we don't mediate disputes or guarantee outcomes.

6. Promoted listings

Sellers can pay to promote a listing so more people see it. This is advertising for the listing, not a fee on the sale and not a promise that it will sell. Prices are shown before you pay. Promotions can't be refunded once they start, except where the law requires.

7. Your content

You own the photos and text you post. You give us permission to host and show them so your listings can appear on Sell Something and in search engines. Make sure you have the right to post them.

8. Liability

The service is provided as it is. As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for losses from a deal between users, from another user's behaviour, or from using the service. Nothing here limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act or other law that can't be excluded.

9. Changes and contact
