Terms of Service

Last updated: 9 June 2026

1. Who we are

Sell Something ("Sell Something", "we", "us") operates an online marketplace that connects buyers and sellers of goods and services in South Africa. By creating an account or using the platform you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

2. We never touch your money

Sell Something does not process, hold, escrow, or transmit any payment between users. All payments happen directly between buyer and seller — in person or by EFT — on terms they agree between themselves. We are not a party to any transaction, are not a registered financial services provider, and accept no liability for payments, refunds, or non-delivery. The only money you ever pay us is for optional promotional features (see clause 6).

3. Eligibility & your account

  • You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract.
  • You're responsible for the accuracy of your listings and the security of your account.
  • Verifying your identity is optional but earns a verified badge and builds buyer trust.
  • One person, one account, used in good faith. Don't impersonate others.

4. Listing rules

You agree not to list or trade:

  • Anything illegal, stolen, counterfeit, or that you don't have the right to sell.
  • Firearms, ammunition, drugs, regulated medicines, live animals where prohibited, or other restricted goods.
  • Content that is misleading, fraudulent, hateful, or infringes someone else's rights.

We may remove listings, suspend accounts, or refuse service at our discretion — especially after a report is reviewed by our moderation team.

5. Trading safely & dispute resolution

Deals are strictly between buyer and seller. We provide tools — verification, ratings, reviews, reporting, and safety guidance— but we don't mediate disputes or guarantee outcomes. Meet in public, inspect before you pay, and never send a deposit to someone you haven't met. Report anything suspicious in the app.

6. Boosted & promoted listings

Our only paid features are optional promotions (for example Boost and Spotlight) that increase a listing's visibility. These are advertising services for your listing — not a fee on your sale and not a guarantee that your item will sell. Prices are shown before you pay. Promotions are generally non-refundable once a listing goes live, except where the law requires otherwise.

7. Your content

You keep ownership of the photos and text you post. You grant us a licence to host and display that content so the platform can work and so your listings can appear in search and on marketing pages. You're responsible for having the rights to anything you upload.

8. Liability

The platform is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we're not liable for any loss arising from a transaction between users, from another user's conduct, or from your use of the service. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act or other applicable South African law that cannot lawfully be excluded.

9. Changes & contact

We may update these Terms; we'll change the date above and, for material changes, give reasonable notice. Questions? Email hello@sellsomething.co.za. See also our Privacy Policy.
